Description
Lapin agile (The nimble rabbit) is located in northern Paris (Montmatre). Over 100-years old and still operating as a cabaret (french singers and comedians). Once a haunt of Picasso, Modigliani, Utrillo, Valadan, etc. These artists, most of them poor at the time, would often pay for their food and drink with drawings and paintings. Picasso in particular, painted a wonderful "At the Lapin Agile" (1905) which hung there for many years. it is now in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Steve Martin, in 1993, wrote a very funny play about Lapin, wherein Albert Einstein meets Picasso and they go about discussing life.

nice comments appreciated Donna -- I visited Montmatre a few times and went there for a show (all in French) but a great memory -- a place where so many of the great Impressionists hung out, late 19th Century.
