Life As I Remember It (and escaped from)!
Years ago, when I was just a young guy tending bar in New York City, I befriended the author Kurt Vonnegut. During a night of riotous drinking, he introduced me to the artist Nicademis Hufford. They became like older brothers to me. Later on Nick, in his attempt to prod me, jokingly said "Bill, if you want to hang with us, you should either learn how to write or paint." Thank you Nick. ' After many years of owning restaurants in New York, and my subsequent career in the legal profession, I realized that I enjoyed painting above all else -- I hope you enjoy my work. P.S. -- Any of my art that you purchase will not have the Fine Art America Stamp on it. Bill All images are copyright © Bill O'Connor. All materials contained may...

I enjoyed studying this fascinating painting, Bill. I still muse about living in a 'romanticized shoebox' somehwere in Greenwich...just for a few years...maybe. I wonder if 3102 may have come available . . . . . :)) FAV/L
Bill OConnor replied:
hi Barbara -- the top line is my Madison Ave. Penthouse when I was a billionaire -- the trees are Central Park -- the bar is one of my favorite -- score by Beethoven -- Ersel Hickey (logo for rock n' roll) -- AND 3102 was my childhood adress (3102 Kingsbridge Ave.).

Tanya Filichkin
Busy, complex, ambitious, creative, artful, fashionable, multidimensional, accelerating but wearing and tiring sometimes, and still so attractive as a magnet - your painting reflects New York life so perfectly well- astonishingly expressive artwork Bill, just love it! Fav/Like
Bill OConnor replied:
Tanya --wowee, terrific analysis Tanya! Thank you. The crazy years of Manhattan living almost "got me." I escaped! I was so much in the bar scene (having designed/owned so many) that, after a while the "glamour" wears off. I would, so often, just hide in the Met Museum, just staring at the art. When I hit 60, I bailed!
