love this bill so much! you've captured the feel of nyc on a hot humid almost unbearable day in all its glory:) this reminds me of my favorite twilight zone episode, where lois nettleton is the painter as the earth gets closer and closer to the sun and her painting melts and the thermometer explodes as she dies!beautiful colors and work bill! l/f

Bill OConnor replied:

Ed -- thanks for all that! Twilight one was so cool then -- so campy now (maybe that makes it even more entertaining). Poor Lois!!

Vivian, Deyanira, Katerina, Nancy,Hazel --thank you all for the wonderful comments. The idea for this painting came about as I was sitting in Battery Park, Lower Manhattan on a hot, sticky June morning. I kept looking at the huge clustered buildings as they were pouring out the heat from their air-conditioning units and thought: "this city is insane"!

Deyanira Harris

Nice abstract!

Bill OConnor replied:

Deyanira -- late, but thanks. I was sitting in a park in lower Manhattan on a brutally humid morning (sweaty in my suit, shirt and tie) and thought "this is insane."

Artist's Description

New York City on a hot, steamy morning. The warm moist air from the Atlantic and Hudson River turns the city into a steamy oven at dawn. Two million ride the subways to work in 110 degree sticky heat. Their clothing is "soaked' by the time they get to their jobs. And yet, New york: "gotta love it'!

About Bill OConnor

Bill OConnor

Years ago, when I was just a young guy tending bar in New York City, I befriended the author Kurt Vonnegut. During a night of riotous drinking, he introduced me to the artist Nicademis Hufford. They became like older brothers to me. Later on Nick, in his attempt to prod me, jokingly said "Bill, if you want to hang with us, you should either learn how to write or paint." Thank you Nick. ' After many years of owning restaurants in New York, and my subsequent career in the legal profession, I realized that I enjoyed painting above all else -- I hope you enjoy my work. P.S. -- Any of my art that you purchase will not have the Fine Art America Stamp on it. Bill All images are copyright © Bill O'Connor. All materials contained may...
